K&N's New FIPK® Intake Gives SVT Cobras 30 More Ponies

RIVERSIDE, CA - The 2003 and 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra are two of the most exciting American vehicles of all time. In box-stock form, its supercharged 4.6L DOHC V-8 pumps out 390 horsepower. Now '03 and '04 Cobra owners can break the 400-HP barrier with K&N Engineering's new Fuel Injection Performance Kit (FIPK® part # 57-2545). Testing on K&N's Dynojet 248 dynamometer revealed that this kit produced up to a 30 peak HP gain at the rear wheels! Cobras fitted with aftermarket exhausts experienced even greater improvements.

K&N developed this kit from scratch. Preliminary testing with pre-existing filters and intake tubes hinted at substantial gains and sent engineers back to the drawing board to eke out every possible horsepower. They developed a new conical FilterCharger® filter that's longer and has a different taper than the company's comparable applications. This new filter single-handedly accounts for 5-7 additional HP. Also, varying tract configurations didn't make appreciable power gains, so this K&N kit retains the OE intake tube. Resulting cost-savings are passed on to the customer. (Kit MSRP is $260.00.) The art and science of the K&N's Cobra FIPK® is in its special radius adapter that mates the filter to the OE mass-air sensor and allows for smooth airflow from the filter to the intake tract.

Installation is relatively straightforward. Major steps include removing the stock intake tube from the throttle body, adding the K&N radius adapter and heat shield to the mass-air sensor, clamping the air filter to the sensor assembly and mounting the FIPK® to the vehicle using the kit's bracketry. This system is covered by K&N's Million Mile Limited Warranty, and the FilterCharger® filter can be repeatedly cleaned and re-oiled with a K&N recharger kit.

K&N Announces FIPK® Intake System For The Hummer H2

RIVERSIDE, CA - The 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Hummer H2 has taken SUV machismo to new levels. K&N Engineering gives the Hummer's 6.0L V-8 even more whiskers with its new Fuel Injection Performance Kit (FIPK®) (Part # 57-3037). In fact, extensive testing on K&N's Dynojet 248 four-wheel dynamometer revealed that this kit alone provides average drive-wheel gains of 17 HP.

In developing the H2 FIPK®, K&N began with a clean slate. The vehicle's OE filter is a unique, disposable element that's bonded to its plastic housing, requiring the whole unit to be replaced when worn. K&N engineered its H2 FIPK® intake system for the optimal blend of airflow and dirt containment by combining roto-molded-plastic intake ducting with an oval FilterCharger® filter, with carbon fiber top and bottom. K&N pioneered the washable/reusable filter industry with their FilterChargers 35 years ago and have stayed at the forefront of performance filtration technology with constant advances in their designs. K&N filters are constructed using high-quality cotton gauze that's sandwiched between an epoxy-coated, aluminum mesh. A specially-formulated oil attracts and holds dirt to the filter. K&N's FilterChargers® are backed by the K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty and can be repeatedly cleaned and re-oiled with a K&N recharger kit.

The H2 FIPK® maximizes incoming air velocity and density by using heat-resistant ducting materials, directional funneling and a black-powdercoated sheet metal heatshield. The kit is a direct replacement for the OE airbox and intake tract, and K&N includes all necessary hardware and bracketry for a true bolt-on installation - no drilling required. K&N also offers their Performance Gold® Oil Filters (Part # HP-1007) for owners who demand the best quality service parts for their vehicle.

K&N Announces Typhoon® Intake Systems For The Ford Focus

RIVERSIDE, CA – The Ford Focus immediately took the world by storm upon its introduction for the 2000 model year. Innovative styling allows the Focus to blend in on highways and byways at all four of the planet's corners. While some Focus owners consider the car elegant base transportation, others look at it as raw material for customizing and personalizing.

K&N grants these enthusiasts one of their wishes with new Typhoon® Intake Systems. Two applications are available: one for the 130-HP 2.0L Zetec engine (Part # 69-3510, which carries the CARB EO# D-269-27) and a system for the 170-HP SVT Focus (Part # 69-3511). Performance testing on a Dynojet 248 dynamometer showed that the SVT kit produced a 9-HP increase in drive-wheel power and the regular Focus Zetec Typhoon® system generated an extra 5 HP at the front wheels.

As with all other Typhoon systems, each Focus kit begins with a high-flow K&N Filtercharger®. These dual velocity-stack-style filters are made of K&N's famous oil-impregnated gauze material, which is layered between epoxy-coated aluminum wire mesh. The filter can be repeatedly cleaned and re-oiled with a K&N Recharger Kit (sold separately), and it's backed by the K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty. An XStream air flow top further improves airflow and extends cleaning intervals.

Typhoon® systems improve both engine performance and underhood aesthetics. The kit's free flowing, mandrel-bent, 6061 aluminum, short-ram induction tube is available in four finishes: polished aluminum and dual-stage powdercoated red, blue and silver. Step-by-step instructions make Typhoon® installation easy for the do-it-yourselfer; no drilling is required.

Improve Horsepower for the Nissan 350Z with K&N's Typhoon® Cold-Air Intake System

RIVERSIDE, CA - The incredible Nissan 350Z injects excitement into the sports car market. K&N Engineering helps the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 Nissan 350Z live up to--and even surpass--the Z-car legacy with a new carbon-fiber-accented Typhoon® cold-air intake system (Part # 69-7070).

Powered by Nissan's award-winning 3.5-liter V-6, the 350Z's powerplant produces 287 horsepower at the crankshaft. With the Typhoon® system installed, testing on K&N's Dynojet 248 dynamometer showed a 10-12 average horsepower increase at the 350Z's rear wheels.

Unique intake tracting, unlike any existing K&N Typhoon® kit, makes the impressive power gains possible. Cool air is drawn into the system through a roto-molded plastic intake scoop that mounts behind the 350Z's front fascia. Incoming air travels through this scoop into a 2.5" OD, 6061 aluminum delivery tube en route to a 5-way airbox. K&N's 350Z Typhoon kit includes a carbon-fiber lid, created in K&N's advanced-composites shop, for the ultimate high tech performance look.

Inside the airbox is K&N's famous FilterCharger®. The filtration surface is constructed of four layers of pleated, oil-impregnated cotton sandwiched between epoxy-coated aluminum wire mesh. As with all K&N air filters, this FilterCharger® can be cleaned and re-oiled with a K&N Recharger Kit (sold separately).

Filtered air then travels to the engine through a mandrel-bent, 3" aluminum induction tube. This one-piece, straight-through tube has a billet aluminum adapter for the engine's mass-airflow sensor. The adapter is located in the optimal position to maximize airflow and is TIG-welded to the intake tube. This Typhoon® kit's tubes are available in four finishes: polished aluminum and dual-stage powdercoated red, blue and silver. Typhoon® applications are available for the 350Z Coupe and 2004 Z-Roadster. The 350Z Typhoon® Intake System is covered under CARB EO# D-269-27.

K&N Introduces Typhoon® Intake System For The Exciting Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII

RIVERSIDE, CA - Sport-compact connoisseurs are blown away by the new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. Known simply as the "Evo," the car was introduced to foreign markets in 1989 as a lightweight, compact 4-door sedan. Its turbocharged engine and high-tech all-wheel-drive system helped the Evo achieve World Rally Championship glory, winning the series in 1998. Over the years, the Lancer Evolution has received many refinements.

The eighth-generation Evo was introduced to the North American market early in 2003 and out-of-the-box stock, the car's turbocharged 2.0-liter engine produces 271 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 revs. K&N Engineering adds even more excitement thanks to a new Typhoon® short-ram-style intake system (PN# 69-6543) for the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution with the 2.0 liter engine. Unveiled at the 2003 International Auto Salon, K&N's Evo VIII system has the fine features performance fans have come to know and covet in the Typhoon® induction line. By replacing the restrictive OE air box and tract, the Evo short-ram-style Typhoon® unleashes power by feeding a greater volume of cooler, denser air to the twin-scroll turbocharger. Testing on K&N's in-house Twin 248 Dynojet AWD dynamometer shows an average gain of 14 horsepower at the Evo's wheels.

Like the rest of K&N's Typhoon® Intake Systems, the Evo kit uses free-flowing, mandrel-bent, 6061 aluminum induction tubing, available in four finishes (polished and red, blue and silver powdercoat). The kit's mounting brackets are powdercoated black, and its no-drilling installation uses stainless-steel hardware. Even the induction tube's clamps are stainless, so they resist corrosion while supplying the necessary clamping force. To help absorb engine vibration, couplings are made of high-quality, silicone hose, which remains flexible under extreme temperatures. Further, the Evo VIII Typhoon® system's mass-airflow adapter plate is made from that sensor's same Grivory (glass-reinforced nylon) material for a factory look.

All K&N Typhoon Intake Kits begin with the company's famous FilterCharger® air filter. Made of multiple layers of oil-impregnated cotton sandwiched between epoxy-coated aluminum wire mesh, this conical filter can be cleaned and re-oiled with a K&N Recharger Kit (sold separately) for years of use. K&N caps the Evo FilterCharger® with a carbon-fiber top. This system also boasts a carbon-fiber heat shield (crafted in K&N's in-house advanced composites shop), which mounts directly to the Evo's air scoop, and prevents ingestion of heated air from the turbo manifold. K&N's Typhoon intake system for the Evo VIII is covered under CARB EO# D-269-27.
